Child Abuse

Child abuse is more than bruises and broken bones. While physical abuse might be the most visible, other types of abuse, such as emotional abuse and neglect, also leave deep, lasting scars. The earlier abused children get help, the greater chance they have to heal and break the cycle—rather than perpetuate it. By learning about common signs of abuse and what you can do to intervene, you can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

Physical abuse is just one type of child abuse. Neglect and emotional abuse can be just as damaging, and since they are more subtle, others are less likely to intervene. While it’s easy to say that only “bad people” abuse their children, it’s not always so black and white. Not all abusers are intentionally harming their children. Many have been victims of abuse themselves, and don’t know any other way to parent. Others may be struggling with mental health issues or a substance abuse problem.

Child abuse occurs all over the world and it sadly happens everyday. There is different types, sexual abuse, beating. (etc) Many children are young and don’t know how to handle the problem. Child abuse doesn’t only harm children it may cause death, suicide, depression, cutting, drawings, pulling out hair, no social life and many more. If a child is being abused, there may be some reasons why, your parents may be drunks, “your not good enough” or the parent is stressed. Child abuse doesn’t only happen in poor families or bad neighborhoods. It crosses all racial, economic, and cultural lines. Sometimes, families who seem to have it all from the outside are hiding a different story behind closed doors. While abuse by strangers does happen, most abusers are family members or others close to the family.

Teen Relationships From a guys Perspective

Guys tend to believe that its ok for people to start having relationships earlier than parents and even girls believe its ok. They also take longer to get more serious about a romantic relationship then girls do. They think that a relationship is serious when you are in love and are thinking about being life partners in about two or so years. Most guys are also less careful about going into a relationship. They die into them faster then girls. Studies also show that guys are less influenced by their parents relationship then girls are. How they view their parents relationship has a little bit of impact on their relationships in the future but not a big amount. 5% of guys believe that their parents relationship is bad. 33% of guys believe that their parents relationship is ok. Only 62% of guys believe that their parents relationship is good. That’s a little bit concerning because that impacts how they view relationships now and how they will continue to view relationships as they grow up.

Teen Relationships From a Girls Point of View

Girls tend to believe that its ok for people to start having relationships earlier than parents believe its ok. They also get more serious about a romantic relationship then guys do. They think that after a couple of months of dating the relationship is serious. Most girls are also more careful about going into a relationship. Studies also show that girls are more influenced by their parents relationship then guys are. How they view their parents relationship is how they think of their relationships. 10% of girls believe that their parents relationship is bad. 41% of girls believe that their parents relationship is ok. Only 49% of girls believe that their parents relationship is good. That’s concerning because that is how they view relationships now and how they will continue to view relationships as they grow up.

Relationships: A Parents Point of View

Most parents believe that the ideal age for their kids to start dating is somewhere around fifteen and sixteen. They decided this age because when you are fifteen and sixteen they think that you more matured and responsible so you know how to make correct decisions. Parents also believe that their teen is more honest about their life when they older. Most parents prefer that before their kids start dating they know that they have mutual respect with their kid, trust, honesty, support, fairness, good communication, and separate identities. Most parents identify that trust and communication are the two most important things that they need to have with their kid before they start dating.

Teen Relationships Affecting Mental Health and When it’s Unhealthy

Romantic relationships in a teens life are one of the most talked about things by their peers. Relationships can have both a positive and negative affect. Dating has been proven to raise self esteem and create a positive attitude. Dating is a major cause of strong emotions in teens. A couple of researchers say that teen relationships are the biggest cause of strong emotions, positive or negative in a teens life. There are a couple of signs that will tell you that you are in a bad relationship. If they become angry with you when you don’t do something they want you to, if they criticize the way you look or dress, keep you from seeing your friends, want you to quit something you love, acts like they are going to hit you when they are angry, or they try to force you to do something you don’t want to do, are all signs that you are in a bad relationship. Violence and Suicide Prevention

In todays society there are many negative violent influences that are affecting people. (Children and teens/adults) In the community we have a hard time figuring out ways to prevents this. One of the many ways to prevent this is to start teaching, that violence is bad, at a very young age.

Teach younger kids how to use there common sense when dealing with violent situations.  We have to teach the to problem solve and to change the underlying conditions that contribute to violence-in homes, schools, and neighborhoods-prevents violence from occurring in the first place.  We need to start to get them involved, maybe to even have a whole class for anti-bullying and violence prevention.

The world health organization estimates that about 1 million people die each year from suicide. This is because most of the teen age years are a huge roller coaster of emotions (Sometimes caused by violent acts against each other).

But this is also because of the violence spreading throughout schools and communities. This has gotten so bad that scientists estimate that every American is affected directly or indirectly by violent acts. This is also affecting every individuals mental, physical, and social wellness.

Over time, schools and communities have learned that their is no “one size fits all” approach to preventing violence.  Communities can help reduce youth violence by developing a city-wide strategy that combines prevention, intervention, treatment, and reentry strategies. The National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention is working inside communities to destine these strategies.

Some of the best ways to help deal with violent is to talk to counselors, trusted adults, or professionals about the violent affecting you or someone around you. These people can help come up with better ways to help and stand up, in ways that do not repeat the violent cycle.

One of the best things that you can do is get involved in your community with helping to prevent violence. Whether it is verbal or physical violence, you can help.

I’m Thinking of Suicide. How Can I Stop?

If you start thinking about suicide you need to get help right away! When things are so bad and suicide seems like the only way out of it, it is usually a sign of depression and discouragement. Suicide is not the only choice, but feeling depressed and trapped may seem like it. When is comes to suicide you need to get help from somebody that knows what you are going through and how to help. A psychologist, psychiatrist, or other trained behavioral health professional can give you that support.  When it comes the time where you need to find a trained behavioral health professional you need to go to someone that you really care about and trust. This should be somebody that is in your family or maybe even a counselor at your school. Once you find somebody start the conversation by saying “I’ve been having a really rough time lately and I’ve beenthinking about suicide, I need your help.” Ask that person to help you find a support group and a counselor. Then you can go on from there. You can also call this number ( 1-800-suicide )

Why Do Teens Try to Kill Themselves…

When teens think of suicide they are trying to escape from a situation that they don’t think they can handle. Teens think that when situations are hard suicide is the only of getting out of it. Some people may feel guilty about something, angry, or ashamed. Other people who commit suicide or attempt are usually trying to escape from feelings of rejection, hurt, or loss. A lot of people feel very sad about not being wanted or maybe they just lost a close family member or friend. We all feel overwhelmed about something at sometime in our life but there is always an easier and better way out than suicide.

Guns don’t kill people. People don’t kill people. Killers kill people.

The world has come to a place where no one can be trusted. A world where the only feelings you have are locked deep down where they cant be seen. This happens until a one of these feelings are pulled up from underneath and shown to the rest of the world. It is when a dark feeling like hate and revenge are expressed that the world crumbles. Guns come into play when these feelings are brought, the mental state of a being gets pushed to the brink until they cant take it anymore. The guns that are used by hunters, sportsman and more importantly used by the United States military.

What is Bullying and How to Prevent

Bullying is not a new thing, it’s been around for a long time. However, it can be stopped you just have to know how to prevent it and how to talk to someone. Bullying is a person or group that repeatedly tries to harm someone weaker or that they believe is weaker. It’s a horrible thing to do to a person Even if you’re not being bullied you don’t want to just stand around and watch it happen. Some bullies are just following from example from home or from what they have seen. If you give the bully a reason to go on with the bullying. You would just make the fire worse, if you don’t give them enjoyment it will stop. However, if it involves violence immediately seek an adult for help. Do not try solve it by yourself it won’t only turn out worse. Children that bully or are bullied can develop mental problems in later life and it can affect their life. They can also have academic problems while growing up and effect what career path they can follow. Although bullies can make your life horrible, their lives can be just as bad. You don’t want to hurt the bully either and if you have been a bully in the past try apologize to the people you have bullied. That’s the first step from recovering from being a bully. Maybe you could end up being best friends with the person you bullied! Even though bullying is a horrible thing and seems like it will never end, it can be prevented and improved so it never happens again.
